Make a title page that incorporates all renewable energy 's Hydro, Solar, Wind and Wave.

Section 2: Definitions

Define and provide a picture of each energy type.
  1. Hydro Energy
  2. Solar Energy
  3. Wind Energy
  4. Wave Energy
Section 3; Investigate each of the 4 Energy types.
( Hydro ,Solar ,Wind ,Wave )

  1. Type:Hydro Energy
  2. Is it used in NZ ? Yes
  3. Other Countries that use it?Brazil, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, Austria.
  4. How is it used to generate electricity? Hydro power plants capture the falling water to generate electricity.
  5. Draw and label a diagram of the main parts of the electricity generator? This can be done on paper and uploaded or on a drawing program on your device. I do not want any Internet images or pictures. They must be hand drawn using a ruler and labelled.

Writing About The Holidays

Today I am going to be writing about a low light in my holidays and a high light.

Low Light

This Monday my 17 year old sister and her boyfriend are going to Auckland to live.  Most of my family are really sad because it is such a big change and we will really miss their company.  When they lived at home they would take me to the movies,to the league field to practice my kick and they would also by yum food for me/spoil me.  But the good thing about it was that my brother Bryce and myself will be able to go and visit them and do fun activities with them.

High Light

My high light of the holidays was spending time with my sister and her boyfriend before they left to go to Auckland.  We were supposed to go to the movies but the movie that we were going to watch was 13+ we couldn't watch the movie because my brother and myself are 12 but instead we went to Time Zone and Margaret Mahy Park.  Three of my sisters and two of my brothers were at Time Zone and Margaret Mahy. At Time Zone I saw my friend Lasa and I went on this virtual reality ride and he was waking me around the head but I thought it was the ride but I released it was him when the ride was over.  We had car races at Time Zone and I came 3rd place. My sister ended up getting 900 tickets on her timezone card.

The cool thing about Margaret Mahy park was that we went at 11 o'clock at night and we had the whole park to ourselves.  My siblings and myself played a big game of hide and go seek tag which was really fun then a couple of my sisters friends turned up so we stopped playing and went and got a ice cream.  The flavour that I got was salted caramel.  Then we started to walk to the cars and went home.

Hurumanu Measuring Weather

Measuring weather.

Definitions

1. Typhoon :
It is a tropical cyclones in the world. It was said that it can only be formed between 180° and 100°E.
2. Anemometer :
It is used to measure the wind.  (Or a current)
3. Beaufort wind scale :
Wind and sea measurements
4. Monson :
It is a rainy season that can change

MATERIALS

  1. Two sticks
  2. One pencil
  3. Four cups
  4.   Pin
  5. Cello tape
  6. sticky note

STEPS

  1. Tape the cup onto each stick.
  2. Cello tape the sticks together to make a cross.
  3. Stick the pin into the rubber of the pencil.
  4.
Group Investigation.

Groups size: 5
Roles:
  • Timekeeper
  • Counter
  • Recorder
  • Anemometer Manager
  • Wind Manager
  1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
  2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
  3. Repeat the above step four (4) times and record the number of spins on the chart.

FINDINGS

  • Record how many times it spins and record it in the table below.
  • You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

Place name on school grounds                                    Number of Spins in 15 seconds
1.Field.20
2.old j block site.15
3.Grass hill in quad.10
4.Tennis court gate.3

CONCLUSION:

For the field there was 80 spins per minute the wind was 13-20 kph and the Beaufort scale was 3.

For the old j block there was 60 spins per minute, there was 6-12 kph and the Beaufort scale was 2.

For the grass hill there was 40 spins per minute,6-12 kph and 2 for the Beaufort scale.

For the tennis court gate there was 12 spins per minute 2-kph  and 1 for the Beaufort scale.

Safety/equipment science.

Today I am going to be talking about some safety rules and some equipment used in a science lab.

Safety Rules:

  1. No running in the science lab.
  2. No food or drink in the science lab.
  3. No tasting any of the food used for an experiment.
  4. Put your bags underneath a table or in a safe place so no one trips over them.
  5. If you break something make sure to tell a teacher and clean it up.
Equipment:

  1. Beaker, is use to carry liquids and also to measure mL
  2. Funnel, is used to Channel liquids.
  3. beaker tongs, are used for caring hot beakers and lids.
  4. Test tube, is also used to hold liquids like the beaker.
  5. Bunsen, is used to heat liquids.

Hurumanu Science 2040

Today in science we watched a documentary called 2040. The documentary was about the good things about global warming and climate change.

What are two thing you learnt?
I learnt about a box called a solar share it is a solar powered box that you can buy and connect it to your neighbours solar panel or to anyone's solar panel instead of you having to get a solar panel.

I also learnt about how much meat we are eating and how much meat we should be eating.  We should be eating lease meat and more vegetables.

What surprised me?
How many different ways people are trying to prevent  global warming and climate change.

What I would like to see in 2040?
I would like to see self driven cars/electric cars, plants growing on the top of buildings and our environment being looked after.

Hurumanu Art

Today in Art hurumanu we have been making some clay characters for our stop motion that we are
going to be making.

The characters are a whale,shark,2 fish a water snake and a octopus.

I made the shark because the shark is going to be the bully and the fish is the one getting bullied.
Then the whale Is going to come along and tell the Shark to stop bullying and all the other sea creatures are just going to be swimming around/past.

One of the challenges is making the sea creatures because it's hard getting the creatures into the right shape.
Here is a photo of what Paea and myself have made.

Stationery fundraiser

Stationery fundraiser
How are we going to spread the message to the community?  We have made DLOs to get the message around the school.

Who do you think will get involved?  I think the teachers and the people that have empty stationery to put in the boxes.

What should we do with the donation money that we received from Terra Cycle?
I think we should use the money to get more stationery for the school or do some stuff with the money to help the community.

How many kgs do you predict we will collect?
I think we will collect up to 10-15 kgs of empty stationery.
