Maze Runner Governments.

Today in Film Study we had to make a poster on the governments in the maze runner.

I learnt the 4 governments an oligarchy, aristocracy, monarchy, and democracy.

What is one thing I wont to know? One thing I want to know is what type of governments the other characters in the Maze Runner are.

Gymnastics

 Today in P.E I learnt how to do a dismount.

How to do a dismount...
1.Place your two hands on the two bars and swing your legs.
2.As you legs swing higher lift them up over the left of right bar and land facing the opposite way that you started off facing.
Next time I want to learn how to do a front roll with no help.

Today we have been studying the 5 Leadership styles.  On my slide we had to explain what an Autocratic Leader, Laissez Faire Leader, Participative Leader, Transformational Leader and transactional leader. Here is a google drawing, explaining what each leadership style means enjoy.

Business and Enterprise

Hello everyone, for the past couple of weeks we have been planning a business and enterprise day on Wednesday, 23 September 2020.  For our business we are doing a basketball game where you have to try get the shot into the hoop, if you get it you win a bag of lollies but if you miss the shot you don't get anything.  It costs $1 From the 3 pointer, $2 from the free throw and $3 to get a lay-up.
The people in my group are Niko, James and Issac.  All my group has to do next is write a letter asking Mr Hilliard if we can borrow a basketball and use the basket ball hoop.

  1. What have you studied in music this term?  I have studied Guitar, piano and ukulele.
  2. Which instrument have you enjoyed the most and why?  I've enjoyed playing the piano the most because it was easier to learn.
  3. What instrument did you find the most challenging and why? I found the Guitar the hardest to play because its hard to learning the cords.
  4. What instrument are you going to focus on for the rest of the year and why?  I would like to do the guitar because that is the instrument I have wanted to learn the most.

Slam Dunk

Today we are learning  how to do slam dunks we are writing about the middle ages.  Enjoy

Slam dunk
What was life like in the middle age?
Interestingly life was different for the rich and poor.  Rich people like kings and queens live in castles, they ate lots of food and showered everyday.  The poor lived in farms, did not have enough food and only showered on special occasions.
This was very important because it shows that the rich were living there best life and the poor were pretty much getting torture.
Life in the middle ages was really rough for the poor.

Arts Kete

For the last 6 weeks we have been doing something called Arts Kete.  For my Arts Kete I choose STEM.  In STEM Every week there would be a new challenge like making a zip-line that can carry 4 marbles.  The challenges that we did was making a zip-line that could carry 3 marbles, making a bridge that a car could go across the whole bridge without it breaking and we also had to make a marble run.  The materials we used was string, fishing line, tape, cardboard, cups, bottle caps and ice cream containers.  After we finished our challenge for the week our things that we made were judged by our teachers on creativeness and team work my team ended up winning because we had the most points at the end of arts kete.

Distillation

 Today we did an experiment on Distillation, Evaporation, and Condensation, and it was also a really good day...

To separate a solute from a solvent in a solution using distillation.

Our Equipment,Solution Of Coke, Conical Flask, Heat Proof Mat, Delivery tube, Bunsen burner, Tripod, Gauze Mat, Bosshead & Clamp, Boiling tube, Retort stand.

Method:

1. A mixture of coke and water was heated in a conical flask…

2. The water evaporates leaving the coke behind…

3. The water vapour flows through the delivery tube…

4. Heat the solution until most of the solvent has been evaporated. Turn off your element.

Results: We saw that the coke started to bubble because of the heat of the element, then at the end of the experiment there was syrup at the bottom.

Discussion: At the end of the experiment there was only solute left in the flask because when we heated the coke the solvent evaporated into the test tube.

Conclusion: At the start the coke started to bubble, the bubbles went to the side of the flask, After the
flask had condensation. Soon the coke really started boiling and it started creating a liquid in the boiling tube.  At the end there will be brown sticky sugar left over. The coke had quite a bit of sugar left over and surprisingly the coke zero also had sugar left over.

Dilution Experiment Hurumanu 3 Science

Today in science we were doing a dilution experiment we did it to learn about dilution .

Our aim was to make a dilution series to investigate concentration.

What equipment we used we used Potassium permanganate crystal,six large test tubes,tweezers,a plastic transfer pipette,a test tube rack ansd a 10 mL measuring cylinder.

1. Place the 6 test tubes in a test tube rack.  Then label them numbers 1-6.

2. Using the measuring cylinder, fill test tube 1 with 10 mL of water. Then fill the other five test tubes with 5 mL of water.

3.  Using your tweezers,  add a single crystal of potassium permanganate to test tube one.

Workshop 3

Atmosphere-How you feel in a situation mood.

1.Scene-Auggies first day at school- When Auggie walks into class everyone stares at him. When he asks to sit down Amos says the seat is saved.

Angel/shot-long shot/eye level of class, close up of Auggie to see his emotional reactions.

Lighting & Colour-
Palette-colours used in the scene e.g nature palette has colours from nature-brown,green.
Warm/cold-Warm makes you feel safe/comfortable
-cold makes you feel clean/stile
Bright-vibrant,jumps out
Dull- faded,muted,blends in
Natural-sun/moon light
Artificial-man made light e.g light bulbs.
Lighting & colours-Warm-makes the class feel safe and welcoming
-Bright colours- gives the room energy and life
-Natural light coming through the window.

Effect on the viewer-Happy,chilled,exciting,educational,inspiring.

Director- Wants to create a happy and safe atmosphere in Mr browns classroom.  Even though it feels this way Julian and Amos's behaviour is unkind.

Sexxxy Paragraphs 
In the scene of Augusts first day at school,lighting and colour are used to create a safe and welcoming classroom environment.  For instance,Bright Warm colours are used on the walls and natural lights come through the windows to make the space look lively.  This makes the audience feel excited,inspired,and that the space is educational and supportive for learning. This was done to show that Mr Brown had created a classroom space that would be welcoming to new students like Auggie.
Coinciding with this is the use of body language.  the children in the room are sitting up smiling and paying lots of attention they are learning ready.  This reminds the audience of the theme kindness because the lighting and colour makes the room welcoming for all students.

Rat dissection Hurumanu 2

Yesterday in science we dissected a rat.
We did the rat dissection to learn about the different body parts in a human body.  In class we have been learning about the organ but mostly the organs that give us energy.  We were learning about the Liver,heart and the Lungs.
I didn't like the dissection of the rat because it was yuck and it didn't smell nice.
The thing that I didn't like about dissection was that the rat smelt
and I didn't like touching the rats.
The equipment we used Scalpel,Tweezers,Scissor.

Wonder workshop 2

A-Fight-Jack fighting Julian because Julian called Auggie a Freak
-Teacher pulling Jack off-Mr Brown.
-Dutch tilt used-shows something is not right
-Makes one person look smaller then the other-Julian looks weak and vulnerable.

Viewer Feels-Shocked-didn't expect Jacks reaction.
Surprised,concerned,uneasy.

Directed-Surprised,sad,worried for jack.

Other Techniques-Music-Creates atmosphere,Mirror slow motion-Makes more intense.

Sexxxy Paragraphs
In the film Wonder,Low angel shots were used effectively.  This is demonstrated in the scene were Jack attacks Julian because he called Auggie a freak.  In this scene a low angle dutch tilt shot is used to make Jack look stronger and to make Julian look weak and Vulnerable. This makes the audience feel shocked,surprised and concerned because we didn't expect Jacks reaction who has not shown any aggressiveness at this point.  The purpose of this is to show the theme of kindness as Jack finally stands up for Auggie.  Combined with this is the use of quiet,minor music and slow motion to create an atmospheres and the event feel more intense.  This can be contrasted to the nature reserve fight scene where Auggie now shows kindness by standing up for Jack.


-Fight scene- Nature Reserve- Auggie makes friends, High 5 no plague,Jack Amos and the others.  They beat up and ran away from 7th graders.

-Wide angle, Long shot-Makes us feel like we are a bystander watching a important moment, the emotions are the characters,not ours.

-Audience-Joyful,Proud,cheerful,ecstatic,Relived-Auggie finally id included,has friends.

-Directer- Shows Auggie is finally fitting in, shows theme importance of friendship of kindness.

-Other Techniques Lighting- use of shadow silhouette out lining the boys,feels like they are all in it together.

Wonder Workshop

-Kindness When people are,respectful,caring,helpful and include others.

-Example 1-Fight scene at the nature reserve.

  • Amos and the boys rescue Auggie and Jack from the bullies. At the end they high five Auggie.
  • Shows kindness because up until this point the other hadn't touched him of treated him with respect
  • The theme of kindness is important because through it Auggie makes friends,is more confident and happy.

Cafeteria scene when Summer sits with Auggie

-Shows theme of kindness because summer leaves the friends she has been sitting with who were bystanders and went to sit with Auggie because he was alone.

-Summer helps rebuild Auggies trust in friendship. If she hadn't shown kindness by sitter with him he wouldn't have learnt to make new friends and move on.


Importance of family and friendships. -Though these relationships our characters build trust,Resilience and self confidence.

Example 1:Scene where Auggie cuts off his padawan braid.

-Link to importance of family because it shows when Auggie is felling sad/alone/depressed that he has a support network to build his resilience.

-Home is Auggies safe and supportive place. He needs this relationship with his parents to help him build confidence to make new friends.

-When Jack punches Jullien for calling Auggie a freak.
-Shows importance of friendship because Jack wasn't willing to let Julian bully Auggie anymore. Auggie is a real friend to where as Julian is the kind of friend that puts you down if you don't agree with him.

-Is important because it shows how real friends treat each other they build trust and can forgive.

Being Right And Being Popular: Doing the right thing even if no one is watching or if no one is actual doing it.'

Example 1:

-Julian chooses to do things to be popular rather than doing the right thing.  He calls Auggie names,hides notes in his locker and tells Auggie he should kill himself.  Julian is the most popular boy in the class so when he chooses to be mean that becomes the thing to do.

-Julian show importance of being right over being popular because through his actions he is removed from the school and loses his friends Juxtaposed to this is will. He decides he would rather be kind to Auggie and as a result keeps all his Friends and isn't kicked out.

Here are 3 steps.
  1. land with your arms and your feet facing up and land on your back.
  2. when you take off you should be on one foot.
  3. When you leave the ground you must spin around and use your knee to turn.

Hurumanu Science- Food Testing.

 My aim is to figure out what nutrients are present in different foods


Test foods - 
  • Egg
  • Bread
  • Apple
  • Potato
  • Glucose
  • Milk

Hypothesis: 

I think Bread will be a complex sugar, I think eggs will be a complex sugar,I think lollies will be a simple sugar,I think the apple will be a complex sugar,I think milk will be a protein and last of all i think the potato will be a complex sugar.

Method for complex sugar.
  1.  Put the sample into the test tube.
  2.  Then add 2 drops of iodine.

  • The bread turned black.
  • The Apple turned black
  • The Potato turned black. 
  • The Glue Coast turned brown.
  • The Milk turned brown.
  • The Egg turned brown. 


Method for simple sugar.
  1.  Put the sample into the test tube.
  2.  Then add 5 drops of Benedictines
  3.  Then heat it up. 


Before heating the ingredients -
  • The potato stayed blue. 
  • The Apple stayed blue.
  •  The glue coast stayed blue. 
  • The egg went orange.
  •  The bread stayed blue.
  • The milk stayed blue.

After heating up the ingredients-
  • The bread stayed blue.
  • The egg Stayed blue.
  • The milk stayed a little bit blue.
  • The potato went orange.
  • The apple went orange.
  •  The Glue coast went orange.

  1. Place about 2mL of sample into a test tube and add 5 drops of sodium hydroxide.
  2. Add 5 drops of copper sulfate.
  3. Shake the test tube side to side

  • The Apple has no protein.
  • The potato has no protein.
  • The egg has protein. 
  • The glue coast has no protein.
  • The bread has no protein.

Conclusion: The bread was a complex sugar,The apple was a complex sugar,The potato was a complex sugar,The glue coast was a simple sugar,The egg was a simple sugar,The milk was a simple sugar.
I was right about the bread,Apple,Potato, being a complex sugar.  I was right about the glue coast,but I was wrong about the Milk and Egg.

Discussion: I found out that most of the proteins are from animals and the different types of simple sugars and complex sugars.

Wonder Film notes

Intro -Close up,Spaceman Jump into the shot, Slow-motion shot to give the feeling we are in space.

Structure:
1st Narrator-Auggie
2nd Narrator-Via
3rd Narrator-Jack
4th Narrator-Miranda
Last Narrator-Auggie
Intro-Symbol of the astronaut helmet, covers his face, represent barrier august puts between himself and the world.

-Music- Music starts quiet, slow but the tempo and dynamics increase to build energy in the scene.  We hear a radio of ground control talking to the Astronaut.

-Next is a tracking shot as we move away from a figure it is now a boy in a helmet jumping on the bed.

-Close-up shows us Auggies (reality) or view of the world but as we pull back we see the real world.

Dad- Nate "Its like leading a lamb to the slaughter"

2 mins-Building suspense as we still haven't seen the boys face. We don't know whats wrong but hints its bad-Hospital Scene,Helmet,Tags,School,Convo,Auggies,Dialogue in the voice over.

Star Wars-A symbol of Auggie wanting people to treat him normally-a safe place in the star wars universe there are lots of weird looking people so no one stares at them.

Seen-Auggie introduces himself,Panda won braid.

Halloween Scene
-Body Language- change now has head held high,walking with confident stride, interacting with others.

Music- Happy/Upbeat- monster mash,fast temps,lots of energy.

-When he hears jack saying if I looked like him i'd kill myself-music tempo gets slow,quiet dynamics makes us focus, Use of dynamic sound- kids laughter.

-Star Wars character Darth Sideous used by Jullien to make fun of Auggie.


Significant-We see Auggie lose faith in the idea of friendship I Jack can be that mean behind his back how can he trust others.

-Popularity and Acceptance
We see this through Jack as he says what he knows Jullien wants to hear because he doesn't want to become Julliens target- get picked on.

Jacks fight Scene-
Starts a eye level-mid/medium shot,make us feel a part of the conversation.

-Sounds are diagetic
-Low angle shot as boys hit ground, this makes the fight seem more dangerous.  Moves to a close of the struggle.
-Dutch Tilt and low angel shot to make Jack look more aggressive.
-Music-minor(sad),quiet dynamics-creates focus and intense slow tempo.

-Shot in slow-mo so we see the event more clearly.

Significant-shows the theme of the population/acceptance.  Jack has learnt from his mistake and is standing up for his friend.

The Nature Reserve Fight Scene: 
During fight shots are used to make Auggie and friends bigger-more powerful and the bullies weak and vulnerable.  Music has fast tempo to build intensity.

Significant-Auggie has grown as a character,he is now willing to stand up for himself.
-Friendship Auggie finally feels accepted when the other boys- Doesn't have to hide behind a maskanymore.

Today in Hurumanu we had to write down 14 types of Language used in film here is what iv'e done.


English Body Language Of Film

Body Language: A way to share to communicate and share your emotions.

Costumes: A costume is used to show the personality of the character.
Hairstyles: Kinda the same reason as costumes used to show the 
personality of the character.
Makeup: Makeup is used to make the actor look more like the film 
character.
Colour: Is used to set the mood of a scene like if the scene is sad the’ll make it gray.
Lighting: Lighting is kinda similar but it is also used to make something stand out.
Props: Props are used to make the film more interactive.
Settings: Settings are used to make the stories better and the surroundings.
Dialogue: Dialogue is used to reveal something new about the character.
Sound Effects: Sound Effects are used to give the audience a mood.
Music: Music is also used to set a mood or to describe something about the scene.
Silence: Silence is used in a scene when something is serious.
Symbols: Often an object used to suggest new ideas.
Special FX: Special FX is often used to make a film more realistic.

Discus Techniques


Today in P.E we were learning about Discus and all the techniques that we needed to use to throw a Discus.
  1. Wrap 4 fingers around the Discus.
  2.  Roll the Discus off your small finger.
  3. Stand side on to the line.
  4. 1 wind up.
  5. Then throw. 
  6. After you throw make sure everyone  has finished throwing then go fetch your Discus.
